HISTORY.
Kettering Cricket Club boasts a rich and proud history dating back to its formation in 1902, originally known as ‘The Crickets.’ Over more than a century, the club has become a central part of the local community in Kettering, fostering a deep passion for cricket and strong relationship with the Kettering community.
In the 2013/14 season, the club embraced a new identity, to become known as, ‘The Mariners.’ This change symbolised a new era, drawing on the strong ties with maritime in the area, while continuing to honour the club's enduring traditions. Kettering Cricket Club was named the Cricket Tasmania Community Cricket Club of the Year in 2020. This accolade recognized the club’s commitment to community involvement, player development, and fostering an inclusive cricket environment.
That same year also saw the completion of a refurbishment of the clubrooms. The new facilities offer modern amenities, enhancing the experience for players, members, and visitors, and underpinning the club's ambitions for the future.
A distinctive feature of the Kettering Cricket Club is the iconic white picket fence encircling the Kettering Oval. Completed in 2014, it is made up of an impressive 3,500 pickets and stands as a proud symbol of the club’s identity and its picturesque ground, often admired by players, spectators and passersby.
On the field, Kettering Cricket Club actively competes in the annual Indigenous round, fiercely contesting the Putalina Oyster Cove Shield against their longtime rivals, Snug. Snug are the current holders of the shield, the club’s participation in this match highlights its commitment to celebrating indigenous culture through sport.
